Preparing for Installation

Preparation is essential for a successful and efficient carpet installation. First, remove all the furniture from the room (unless you wish for the installers to move the furniture) and empty any closets. Then you will need to address your old flooring. Will the installation crew be removing and disposing of your current flooring, or will you be removing and disposing of the old flooring? Once the room is ready for installation, the installation crew will make sure your subfloor is flat and smooth, and ready for your new carpet.

On the day of installation, we request a member of your household who is at least 18 or older be available to greet the installation crew and show them the work area. We ask, for everyone’s safety, that you keep children and pets away from the work area until the installation is complete.

Carpet Care & Maintenance

At Heartland Custom Flooring, we recommend regular care and maintenance to keep your new carpet looking and feeling it’s very best. Incorporating these simple tasks into your regular cleaning routine will help to retain your carpet’s beauty and softness over the long term. Visit https://shawfloors.com/care for more information.

Where to Start

Invest in doormats and place them throughout your home. When entering your home, have family members and friends wipe their feet on the doormats. Remove outdoor shoes before walking across your carpet. Dirt particles can damage the carpet fibers, so it is important to minimize the amount of dirt tracked onto your carpet. Always take care when moving heavy furniture and place carpet protectors underneath all furniture legs. Using a quality carpet pad will add extra softness and support.

Regular Care

Keeping preventative maintenance in mind, you should develop a regular care routine, which includes regularly vacuuming your carpet using a manufacturer-approved appliance.  Vacuuming the carpet once or twice a week should be sufficient if your carpet experiences light to medium traffic. However, if it experiences heavy traffic, you may want to vacuum more frequently.

Professional Cleanings

Manufacturers also recommend that you have your carpet cleaned professionally throughout the year. Although an alternative is to shampoo the carpet yourself, you should make sure you follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidelines. It is important to consider a professional cleaning at least once or twice a year.

Please Note:  Never use bleach on your carpet.

Spills and Stains

If you have children or pets, or no matter how careful you may be, your carpet will most likely fall victim to a spill or mess of some sort. When this happens, don’t panic. Many of the carpets we sell are with stain-resistant technology built into their fibers, which makes it easy to clean up common household messes. Remember, it is important to address the spill right away.

You will need to determine if a spill is a water or oil-based. To absorb some spills, you can use a clean cloth. Others will require a more comprehensive approach to cleaning. For these, take a look at our stain removal guide.

What our customers are saying

When I decided to sell the home my parents had lived in, I knew that some updates were going to be needed. I replaced the carpet with a Berber carpet from another flooring company. After the home had been listed for several months, my realtor told me that several people had told her that while they liked the home, they didn’t like the new carpet. I knew I had paid a lot of money, but it hadn’t helped and was actually hurting the sale of the home.

I contacted Rob at Heartland Custom Flooring to talk about changing the carpeted areas to match the wood floors in the dining room and entry by the front door. I was amazed that Rob was willing to come to the house to show me samples. I never even had to visit his showroom! Once he was here, we realized that we had two choices: we could either replace the carpet with unfinished wood and then completely refinish the old wood or we could tear out the original wood and buy new wood throughout. Rob brought me two different bids and then actually talked me into the LESS expensive choice, sanding and refinishing, instead of buying new wood.

Once we had decided on that process, the installer talked to me about the color that I had decided on. He told me that my color choice was “outdated.” He suggested a different color that would be more “modern”. Boy, was he right! It looks beautiful! Not only that, but his crew was finished a few days earlier than they had planned.

And here’s the best part of the story: Just two days after they finished the floor, the house was SOLD! I can’t say enough about Heartland Custom Flooring their level of service. Rob really worked hard to consult with me to make sure that I got what I needed without trying to “sell me” on products that would cost more and wouldn’t help sell the home, which was the ultimate goal.

Thanks, Rob!
